Getting started with CBD

For Beginners

How does CBD work?

The human body is a complex system of chemical processes and reactions including the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a complex process between fatty acid-based chemicals which act as a signal or key, the receptors into which these fatty acids fit like a lock and the various enzymes which produce and break those chemicals down. In the process, endocannabinoid chemicals act on brain and immune system receptors(CB1 & CB2) using the same compounds that are found in cannabis: CBD and THC

Is CBD oil a miracle cure?

There are many claims made by CBD oil users and manufacturers but CBD is NOT a miracle cure which will guarantee perfect health. CBD oil is useful and helpful as part of a healthy regime including healthy eating, exercise, restful sleep and good stress management.

Clinical studies have shown CBD oil to be most effective for pain, anxiety and some form of seizure. All other claims are presently anecdotal and not yet backed up by scientific studies.

Continued Use

Are there any side effects of CBD oil?

In 2017 an academic review of 25 studies carried out over a period of 20 years into the efficacy and safety of CBD oil did not identify any significant side effects. These studies covered a range of doses including acute and chronic regimes and looked at various methods of ingestion.

CBD oil is approved throughout Europe and there is now comprehensive knowledge of its metabolism, toxicology and safety. Typically, the standard dose of CBD oil is 10mg. In clinical studies doses of up to 1200mg for 30 days showed no negative side effects during the trial period. At very high doses, in excess of 2000mg per day (the equivalent of roughly 10 bottles of CBD tincture), CBD may cause dizziness, headache, anxiety, appetite suppression, drowsiness, fever, diarrhoea, irregular or increased heart rate and jitteriness. Such symptoms are rare and will fade after a few hours.

Vitamins

  •   Vitamin A
Important for growth and development, for the maintenance of the immune system and good vision.
  •   Vitamin B1
Also known as Thiamine, is used to treat thiamine deficiency, signs can include malaise, weight loss, irritability and confusion.
  •   Vitamin B2
More commonly known as Riboflavin, is used to prevent and treat riboflavin deficiency and prevent migraines.
  •   Vitamin B3
All three forms of vitamin B3 are converted within the body to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). NAD is required for human life and people are unable to make it within their bodies without one of the vitamin B3 or tryptophan.
  •   Vitamin B6
Involved in many aspects of macronutrient metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, histamine synthesis, hemoglobin synthesis and function, and gene expression.
  •   Vitamin B12
Involved in the metabolism of every cell of the human body: it is a cofactor in DNA synthesis, and in both fatty acid and amino acid metabolism. It is particularly important in the normal functioning of the nervous system via its role in the synthesis of myelin, and in the maturation of developing red blood cells in the bone marrow.

Minerals

  •   Beta Carotene
Plant carotenoids are the primary dietary source of provitamin A worldwide, with β-carotene as the best-known provitamin A carotenoid.
  •   Calcium
Known for improving bone strength teeth, as well as reducing the risk of osteoporosis.
  •   Iron
Plays an essential role in oxygen transport by blood and oxygen storage in muscles.
  •   Magnesium
Chronically low serum magnesium levels are associated with metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus type 2, fasciculation, and hypertension.
  •   Manganese
Manganese enzymes are particularly essential in detoxification of superoxide free radicals.
  •   Phosphorus
Essential for life. Elemental phosphorus was first isolated from human urine, and bone ash was an important early phosphate source.
  •   Potassium
Vital for the functioning of all living cells. It is necessary for normal nerve transmission; potassium deficiency and excess can each result in numerous signs and symptoms, including an abnormal heart rhythm and various electrocardiographic abnormalities.
  •   Selenium
Necessary for cellular function in many organisms, including all animals. Selenium is an ingredient in many multivitamins and other dietary supplements, including infant formula.
  •   Zinc
An essential mineral, including to prenatal and postnatal development. Zinc deficiency affects about two billion people in the developing world and is associated with many diseases. In children, deficiency causes growth retardation, delayed sexual maturation, infection susceptibility, and diarrhea.
